Heppo Care Guide
Explore valuable tips on prolonging the lifespan of your shoes on this page. Proper shoe care is essential for their longevity. Give your shoes a break—avoid wearing the same pair daily. Two pairs work just as well as three if you can alternate between them. Use cedar shoe trees to maintain their shape, and for thoroughly soaked shoes, opt for room temperature drying—avoid radiators, drying cabinets, hairdryers, heat guns, or unconventional heat sources. While newspaper works, shoe trees are optimal. Below are some general tips for shoe care. Remember to refer to the specific wash and care instructions for each product, and when in doubt, consult the brand directly.
new shoes
When your shoes are brand new, they lack protection against dirt and moisture. A helpful tip is to polish, apply shoe cream, or use waterproofing spray on the shoes before their initial use. This practice enhances their longevity.
Impregnation
Despite revolutionary materials such as GoreTex™, achieving completely waterproof shoes, apart from rubber boots, remains challenging. However, there are materials that offer varying degrees of water resistance. You can enhance this by applying a water repellent spray to the shoes before their initial use. Generously spray along the sole edge and use lighter sprays over the rest of the shoe.
Leather shoes
Use shoe cream in the same color as the shoes, or alternatively, a neutral shoe cream regularly to maintain their shine and style. This also offers a superficial layer of protection against dirt and moisture. For additional leather care, apply a slightly heavier cream like shoe grease or leather balm a couple of times a year.
For heavy-duty leather shoes like Chelsea Boots, we recommend conditioning them with shoe grease before the initial use. Grease them a few times a year with a relatively thin layer, allowing it to soak in thoroughly (30+ minutes), then brush off the excess with a horsehair brush.
Suede shoes
Suede shoes are sensitive to moisture, so it's advisable to leave them at home during heavy rain. Suede can be waterproofed to some extent. If you have stains on suede, the most effective way to remove them is by using a cleaning suede eraser block.
sneakers
Ensure to impregnate your sneakers before their first use. If they become dirty, clean them with a mild soapy solution. An old toothbrush is effective for gently scrubbing away stains.
Afterwards, wipe gently with a cloth or sponge. If you have white sneakers that have faded, we offer a specially designed white covering shoe cream for sneakers.
Unpleasant Odor
If your shoes develop an unpleasant odor from foot sweat, consider two simple tips. Firstly, change socks and shoes more frequently than usual, avoiding wearing the same shoes two days in a row. Secondly, use cedar shoe deodorizers and shoe blocks. Cedarwood is effective in absorbing moisture and odors!
Never wash shoes in a washing machine!
Contrary to the modern household advice that often results in brilliantly white athletic shoes, this is a definite method to reduce the lifespan of your footwear. Typically, water seeps into seams and areas that don't completely dry out, potentially causing deterioration of rubber and synthetic materials over time. This may lead to more than just foot odor issues; adhesive joints may also crack. Shoes washed in a washing machine cannot be claimed under warranty, as suppliers explicitly advise against machine washing in their care instructions.
